The team

Ten researchers. Everyone below is tagged with the pillars and methods they carry, so you can see who to write to rather than guessing from a job title.

Leadership

Who runs the laboratory

prof. Ing. Ondřej Přibyl, Ph.D.

Head of laboratory

Ph.D. in transportation planning from Pennsylvania State University, with three years at the Pennsylvania Transportation Institute. Author of the motorway line traffic control system deployed on the Prague City Ring Road, and principal investigator of the RESISTRANS national centre.

doc. Ing. Michal Matowicki, Ph.D.

Deputy head of laboratory

Travel behaviour, driving simulator experiments and statistical evaluation of traffic simulations. Works on railway automation with AŽD Praha, and leads our railway digital twin architecture and the multimodal digital twin project.

Researchers

Where the methods and the models come from

Eight researchers, from traffic simulation and game theory to explainable AI and public transport quality. Between them they cover all five pillars and all six methodological groups.

JP

Dr.-techn. Ing. Jan Přikryl

Senior researcher · Traffic simulation, state-space models

Ph.D. in computer graphics from TU Wien, nearly a decade at the Czech Academy of Sciences (ÚTIA). SUMO and Aimsun, applied statistics, and lead author of the certified methodology for developing and deploying transport digital twins.

  • Method M5
  • Pillar 2

RNDr. Magdalena Hykšová, Ph.D.

Senior researcher · Game theory, optimisation

Ph.D. from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University; author or co-author of nearly 100 publications. Game theory, mathematical modelling and optimisation — including the asymmetric Nash bargaining foundation of our service design work.

  • Method M4
  • Pillar 5
PP

Ing. Pavla Pecherková, Ph.D.

Researcher · Statistics, travel behaviour surveys

Statistical modelling and evaluation of travel behaviour surveys, including the four-country MaaS choice models and the monograph of Czech mode-choice models and results.

  • Method M1
  • Method M3
  • Pillar 3

Ing. Jana Kuklová, Ph.D.

Researcher · Traffic flow harmonisation, multi-agent control

Motorway traffic flow harmonisation and multi-agent systems for traffic modelling and control, including the fuzzy-logic generation of highway management algorithms.

  • Method M2
  • Pillar 1
HÇ

MSc. Halil Çevik

Researcher · Explainable AI for mode choice

Deep neural networks with SHAP attribution for mode choice determinants, and offline origin–destination estimation for cars, cyclists and pedestrians as a baseline for digital twins.

  • Method M2
  • Pillar 3
  • Pillar 4
MJ

Ing. Markéta Jirmanová

Doctoral candidate · Public transport service quality

Composite quality indices at inter-stop-section resolution, and the net passenger-time balance method for evaluating route deviations.

  • Pillar 5
MZ

MSc. Milad Ziya

Doctoral candidate · Behavioural digital twins, activity-based demand

Extends transport digital twins with a slow behavioural loop: activity-based demand updated from GPS, smartcard and app data, and an inference layer that separates supply disruptions from demand shifts. Background in urban design, sustainability science (University of Gävle) and data analytics with GIS and Python.

DG

Ing. Dmitrii Grishchuk

Doctoral candidate

Doctoral research within the laboratory’s modelling and simulation work. He is focusing mainly on the multi-agent simulation in MATSIM.

We are recruiting, and we supervise

Scaling up the group is an explicit objective for 2026 and beyond, because the agenda across the five pillars is larger than the current team. There is an open postdoctoral position on modelling travel behaviour using multi-agent systems and an activity-based approach, under the mentorship of prof. Přibyl.

We also host visiting researchers through the CTU Global Postdoc Fellowship, supervise within a joint doctoral programme in Smart Cities, and take students who want a thesis on a real problem with real data rather than a synthetic exercise — with access to municipal traffic data that most theses never get near.
